Implants are the most widely used option for snakes, but also glued or ingested options are becoming widely accepted.
Transmitter´s characteristics are the same regardless of the preferred method, therefore these can all be referred as “Implants”.
There are 2 options regarding the type of antenna used:
- IC - Implant with Cable antenna: External type of antenna which can be of different lengths. The longer the antenna the better detection range. The cable can be implanted subcutaneous or can be totally external.
- IH - Implant with Helix internal antenna: The total length of the antenna is coiled inside the housing so it can not be seen and the entire transmitter looks like a capsule with nothing protruding. This option causes a very important decrease in signal strength because of the shape of the antenna, and body mass if implanted or ingested.
Backpack model could be suggested for longer term studies that prefer external options, as it includes 2 holes for better attachment.
